Sadly our Club Captain Stan Prendergast passed away on the 4th February 2014 having devoted many years to Sandford Rifle Club, his true passion.
Stan will be fondly remembered as a ‘sergeant of arms’ who maintained the range and served the club as though it were his own. From becoming Club Captain in 1978, Stan held this position until his passing. Stan loved his target rifle shooting and within the club appreciated the camaraderie and friendships he garnered during these times.
As one of only two ‘Life Members’ of our Club (the other being Mr Jim Wishart) Stan leaves a legacy to the club that is strong & continuing to progress rifle shooting in Southern Tasmania. The strength of Stan was no better displayed than in his determined efforts to keep the Sandford Rifle Club operating on a private range. He dealt behind the scenes with many issues related to the club and with wife Fay they truly were the ‘oil in the cogs’ that kept the club operating and will be truly missed by all.
Stan embraced new opportunities to development the club, particularly starting the club website. This took Stan into the age of computers and so began ‘aged learning’ at adult ed! He was extremely happy to see the growth in new members (via our website) that the club has attained over the past years.
Today this new membership growth needs to honour Stan’s sense of service with members picking up the reins of the Sandford Rifle Club management and continuing his legacy.
Final Shot – at the club range on 22nd March following the annual prize Shoot at approx 3 pm Mr Jim Wishart will present a tribute to Stan Prendergast, followed by the Final Shot by Mr Len Brown.
All members and friends invited.
